The Nations Championship is a new international rugby tournament jointly created by Six Nations Rugby and SANZAAR. It brings together 12 of the world's top nations - the six Six Nations teams (Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, France and Italy) and the four Rugby Championship nations (South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and Argentina), plus Japan and Fiji as invited teams. It runs in even-numbered years only, avoiding Rugby World Cup and British & Irish Lions.

This replaces the former July and November international windows, specifically the Summer Tours and the Autumn Nations Series.

The format is north vs south - each team plays all six teams from the opposite hemisphere across two windows. It culminates in a Finals Weekend in London in November.
